Birth Doula Service

Julie Mirise RN, LMT

What is a Doula?

A doula’s primary responsibility is to the mother—not to a hospital administrator, nurse, midwife, or doctor. Doulas provide physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother, partner, and whoever is present at the birth.

Becoming a mother is a transformational processes. Traditionally, women have been surrounded by other women during labor and birth. These women provided a grounded presence of knowing and calm. A sense of stability as the mother rides the ebbs and flows of birth.

Birth allows a woman to access her core, her raw power from the depths of her soul. Tapping into the long lineage of the women who have given birth before her, activating her primal instincts to expand and create life. This sacred experiences requires protection and nurturance, which a doula can provide.

Holding women as they experience their growth into motherhood is sacred work that I am humbly honored and passionate about. I align with bodily autonomy, the liberation of women’s bodies, and energetic sovereignty.

I believe that the birthing space deserves the utmost respect. I believe the mother holds the power to make choices that are best for her and her baby as she explores her capacity for expansion, multidimensional knowing, and transformation into the embodiment of motherhood.

  • “Love love LOVE Julie!! She was a God send to help us welcome our third baby. We hadn’t used a doula before and being our third we questioned if we really needed one, but I am SO glad we did. She has an amazingly calm aura, listens to your every need, advocates for you in the most knowledgeable and respectful way. She was there through every up and down, twist and turn.

My longest labor yet, all while dealing with hospital ‘red tape’ issues, Julie kept me (and my husband!) sane through it all. We are very private people so I didn’t know how I’d feel with anyone other than my husband in the room but she was the perfect person for us to lean on. Oils, massage, music, lighting, walking, talking, advocating, advice- whatever we needed, she was there. She even took beautiful photos for us. I’m certain if it wasn’t for her our experience would have been no where near as good as it was. I could not recommend her more!!”

  • Julie was an absolute gem at my birth! I knew she would be after my first massage with her back in 2020. I had just had a miscarriage, and she was so kind and supportive and just totally let me tell her all the things you probably shouldn’t tell a perfect stranger! Julie has never been a stranger though, and I doubt she is to anyone! She met me at one of the worst times of my life and was so kind. I knew I wanted her to be there for one of the best days of my life. That day was the birth of my daughter in 2022. She is just the type of person you want at your birth.

She is unassuming and wants to be the support that a birthing mother needs. She was calm and quiet but such a strong force of support! She was so much help to my husband too. Between the 2 of them, they got me through a 44 hour home birth! Julie was there for a large portion of that- the woman deserved a medal! She stayed until my baby girl latched and was supportive through that too! The next day she sent me the kindest text message that a mommy needs the day after giving birth. I just can’t say enough good things! Julie has truly become a true friend! Just love her!

  • “When I found out I was going to have my daughter, I started having a lot of uncertainties and anxieties with my pregnancy. A trauma I had gone through a handful of years ago after college popped back up. I had suppressed it before, and never even mentioned the experience to my husband.

After working with Julie during pregnancy, I decided to have her as a doula. I wasn’t even planning on having a doula. I’ve known Julie for a bit of time, and she just said, ‘Feel free to fall upon me if you need. Any sort of support.” I thought about it, and I talked with my partner, and I thought, maybe it would be nice to have somebody I trust. I’m so glad I did! I don’t know how he and I would have gotten through the birth without her. She was more supportive that our actual midwife.

I had a really difficult birth. My placenta ended up being retained. It wasn’t a good experience, but Julie fought for me. I started hemorrhaging pretty bad, and ended up in the hospital. She took my baby, cared for her, and was with her the whole time I was in the ER, finding donor milk, advocating for us. She was our life support. I can’t recommend her enough.”
