Feel Empowered to Feel Better

Using my own bodywork approach, I help my clients ease pain, muscle tension, and emotional stress. My goal is to help you find the root cause of what your body is trying to tell you.

Maybe you are chronically tight, lean toward one side of your body, or subconsciously protect a certain area. You can feel better in your body, and have hope.

When You Get A Session With Me…

I don’t follow a one-size-fits-all formula. Your body will teach me how to use my knowledge and skills in the best possible way. We will work together to rebalance, respond to, and acknowledge your body’s innate wisdom.

In-Person Services

A note when booking: It’s important to me that I am able to provide complete care to my clients. Therefore, any time spent discussing your specific needs and goals for your session and making sure you understand what we are doing is not included in your 60 or 90 minute bodywork session. Therefore, sessions may run longer than expected, and it is best to allow a time cushion in your schedule when booking. In addition, post-session integration can be important, such as taking a walk around the block before getting in your car, and I encourage you to allow time for integration, as needed.

|

3 Series - Intuitive Bodywork

$250 for 3, 60 min sessions

Choosing to commit to a bodywork series allows three separate sessions to re-pattern a reoccurring symptom that your body may seem to default into. Checking in with a series offers insights into lifestyle habits, thought patterns, and even how we hold ourselves in our body. A series can also be a lovely way of scheduling out time for yourself, to allow for receiving, and balancing yin energy with yang.

|

Pelvic Hydrotherapy

$40 for 60 mins

Pelvic hydrotherapy consultations and steams are an opportunity for deep relaxation while our plant friends lend a healing hand. The steam incorporates the use of toning herbs that awaken powerful acupuncture points within the body to regain homeostasis. Infrared technology and a bio-ceramic negative ion disk also help open the channels of your cell walls in order to more easily detox, as well as recharge your body's energetics. Not recommended during pregnancy.

|

Finding Center

$100 for 60 mins

Balance the wobble in your bioenergetic field. You are your own healer in this session, and will be gently guided through a mix of mediation, Reiki, and Energy Codes processes. These sessions have the most profound outcomes when a strong intention is incorporated.

How I Got Into Bodywork & Abdominal Therapy

AAA_3019.jpg

After giving birth to my children, I really wanted to be a good mom. I wanted to have fun with my kids and enjoy our lives. But I was exhausted and at times, in pain. I noticed that I could still feel some part of the trauma of my birth in my body, especially in my womb, and I could even see some of it in my first-born child. I realized I needed to take care of myself, not just for me, but also for my children and for my family.

In an attempt to get help, I stumbled upon Beyond Mayan Abdominal Therapy work and other modalities of healing. Feeling the effects on my body, this new yet ancient approach made so much sense to me. It was based on a different way of thinking, complementary to what I had learned in college when studying to become a pediatric nurse. It allowed me to see a completely new perspective on not only medicine, but also on my own state of health.

If You Don’t Listen To Your Body, The Message Gets Louder

Of course, going to the doctor for emergency or acute situations, like when you need to be patched up, is a no-brainer. But when I was working in pediatrics, I started to wonder how so many people, including me, were ending up feeling broken (or at least partially broken). It seemed like some people ended up actually breaking something to get the message that their life isn’t quite working.

When I was a nurse, I saw how the doctors were often puzzled and unable to get to the roots of a disease. It seemed like too many people stayed sick longer than needed or experienced harmful side-effects of certain drugs. It just didn’t feel sustainable.

Discovering New And Ancient Pathways for Health

As I learned more about Beyond Mayan Abdominal Therapy (from Kim Hart’s H.A.R.T Method), Pelvic Hydrotherapy (from Red Tent Wellness) and other holistic therapies, I saw how the tools I was learning could actually help me build long-term health, and break out of the cycles I had seen over and over again as a nurse. After feeling like I was getting to the breaking point with my own body, I wondered how I could maintain my health without feeling like I was falling apart at a young age. My motivation came from deep within myself, to feel good again and take care of the family I had created.

I still remember the moment when I got back to trusting in my body again. My kids were younger, and I was in bed with a really bad sinus infection. I didn’t want antibiotics because I didn’t want to go through the side effects, again. The nurse in me wanted the quick fix, but I knew there was something deeper that needed healing. They had derailed my system before, and I didn’t want to recover from antibiotics in addition to the sinus infection. I felt like I was barely holding it together.

Sometimes Healing Means Allowing Yourself To Fall Apart

So I just layed there, and decided it was either going to get really bad, or it was going to get better. I gave in. I allowed my body to do what it needed to do. In letting go, I allowed myself to come back. And in fact, the less I fought, the better I felt.

That was the day I started to trust my body again. Since that day, I’ve opted for holistic approaches, and steered away from pharmaceuticals. I took back responsibility for my body, and I have no regrets (except not doing it sooner). I’m not saying I’ll never take medication again, but only for a good reason. Trying to force my body into health was something I never wanted to do. I know there is a different way now.

I always loved helping people feel better--that was the best part of being a nurse. So, I started seriously investigating alternative systems of medicine and healing besides the western medical framework. Turns out, many of the ancient healing traditions across the world share similar philosophies about how to restore health and vibrancy to parts of the body when it’s not working as it’s meant to be.

Getting Healthy and Staying That Way Is Not That Complicated, After All

Using my own bodywork approach that I call Intuitive Massage, as well as Beyond Mayan Abdominal Therapy and other modalities, I help my clients ease pain, muscle tension, and emotional stress while supporting their immune system and overall sense of wellness.

The effects these techniques have been shown to help increase the flow of blood, lymph and vital energy to tissues and ligaments. I specialize in helping people regain a sense of ease and openness where they hold the most tension, quite often in their pelvic region. While I’m gently massaging and connecting to the tissues in your body, even including the belly and uterus, I can help you release tension from areas you might subconsciously protect.  People will often say to me that they had no idea a certain part of their body was so tense. Of course, we can get so busy in our day to day lives that we forget to give our bodies the attention they need. When clients get up from my table, they often tell me they feel like they shed layers of heaviness they didn’t even know were weighing them down. Empowering people to feel better in their own bodies is why I’m here.

What My Clients Are Saying

“The session was very moving for me, emotionally and physically. I wasn’t expecting my uterus to actually move. I was emotional for several days after that and it felt like a deep release. Julie is very intuitive and connected, and she’s able to help me with insight that really resonates. If you’re open to the idea of working with someone who is going to go deeper emotionally and intuitively, then she’s the one.”

You Aren’t “One-Size-Fits-All”

toa-heftiba-hBLf2nvp-Yc-unsplash.jpg

Working with the human body shouldn’t be about going through a step-by-step formula of using the same techniques, no matter how sensitive or resistant the client’s system is, and what experiences it has stored. In fact, much of the difference a bodyworker is able to make does not come from the techniques he or she uses, but from their ability to respond to whatever it is that their clients’ bodies are telling them during the session. In this sense, the most significant outcomes created during a session will, more often than not, be triggered by something the bodyworker is responding to intuitively, without them necessarily even knowing how big of a difference it will make.

The work I offer has the potential to address the root of an ailment or pain, which might be emotional in nature. While opening up may feel uncomfortable and vulnerable, it can offer profound healing (and no-one regrets it after it’s done). In many cases, one session is all it takes to make a huge improvement in how you feel, and occasionally, it can be all you need. Scheduling consistent treatments for a certain period of time (i.e. once per month, menstrual cycle, or every two weeks) enables you to gain momentum in your healing and shift more chronic or deeply embedded physical (and even emotional) issues.

Walk Me Through Your Process…

emiliano-vittoriosi-dsy_ILnH69A-unsplash.jpg

When scheduling an appointment, I’ll ask you a few questions, so I can get a first impression of your situation or problem.

Then, when you come to see me, we sit down together and you’ll tell me what else I need to know. I have space for you, however you show up. This allows me to get in tune with your energy so when you get on my table, I’m able to connect with all you are, not just with your symptoms.

After we’ve talked and have a sense of what we need to focus on, we’ll begin the work on the massage table. I’ll guide you to connect with your breath to begin the process of tuning into your body.

Depending on what you need, we will focus on different areas of your body. I sometimes work on people’s bellies. Most people are not used to being touched on their belly and it can feel vulnerable or even uncomfortable at first. However, most people find that having their abdomens worked on is a very potent experience, because we tend to hold our emotions in our most sensitive areas.

I love when a client gains awareness of their emotional body in their session and how closely it interplays with their physical wellbeing. Of course, everyone heals on a different timeline. This work supports the uniqueness of individual bodies, allowing each individual to lead the way for their own healing.

“I wasn’t expecting so much work on my belly, even though I knew Julie works with Mayan Abdominal Therapy. It’s different than just getting your back worked on. You’re more vulnerable, and more open. I got off the table and realized my pelvis was actually in the right place, for what felt like the first time. I didn’t realize that organs could be out of place before my session.

So many people go through life and never drop into the subtle sensations that are always present. My session helped me open up to become aware of how I hold my body, oftentimes trying to hold it all together, so to speak. Being a full-time mom and being a business owner, it’s often my masculine side that keeps the show running, and I can lose touch with my feminine side. I call Julie when my feminine needs to be seen and nourished. The more present I am with myself and what is coming up in the session, the more I can feel the impact of the work in my body and entire being.”

A Recent Client Experience

“When I found out I was going to have my daughter, I started having a lot of uncertainties and anxieties with my pregnancy. A trauma I had gone through a handful of years ago after college popped back up. I had suppressed it before, and never even mentioned the experience to my husband.

Julie suggested we try this healing ritual, a traditional plactica and limpia. When we started the session, she had me close my eyes and just start talking. Just knowing she was there, taking it all in, was really comforting. It felt really good and I got everything out that I wanted to talk about. I didn’t expect to open up as much as I did. I knew that it could have been possible, but I felt so comfortable with her, so more came out than I thought would. And not once did I ever feel judged. Julie is there for you and what you’re going through.

After, I was able to clarify how I was feeling and talk about my past with my husband. It had been a buffer in my life before, without even realizing it. This was something I never had really talked about. Julie created this space that allowed me to open up, and after that I felt I could be more open, not just with my loved ones, but with myself, too. Julie just allowed me to think through things, not rushing me, and really allowed me to have the experience for myself. She’s a great person to talk with, just to be present with. She really takes your time to get to know you and your body in a way that is very nurturing, and true and real.

After working with Julie during pregnancy, I decided to have her as a doula. I wasn’t even planning on having a doula. I’ve known Julie for a bit of time, and she just said, ‘Feel free to fall upon me if you need. Any sort of support.” I thought about it, and I talked with my partner, and I thought, maybe it would be nice to have somebody I trust. I’m so glad I did! I don’t know how he and I would have gotten through the birth without her. She was more supportive that our actual midwife.

I had a really difficult birth. My placenta ended up being retained. It wasn’t a good experience, but Julie fought for me. I started hemorrhaging pretty bad, and ended up in the hospital. She took my baby, cared for her, and was with her the whole time I was in the ER, finding donor milk, advocating for us. She was our life support. I can’t recommend her enough.”

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.”
